Dr. Paul McNicholas
McMaster University
Paul D. McNicholas is part of the MECCE Project Indicator Expert Group. He is the Canada Research Chair in Computational Statistics at McMaster University, where he is a Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. His research focuses on the use of mixture model-based approaches for classification, with particular attention to clustering applications, and he has published extensively within the field. He is developing new, computationally intensive statistical methods to get a better insight into big, and otherwise complex, data. He will focus on methods that find subgroups of similar observations that are applicable in any setting where ultra high-dimensional data exists—from management science to disease diagnostics and bioinformatics. Paul is an associate editor for several journals and has served as a guest editor for a number of special issues on mixture models.
