Dr. Ellen Field

Dr. Ellen Field is the MECCE Project’s Regional Hub Co-Chair for the Canadian hub. Her research interests include policy and practice of climate change education in the Canadian K-12 system, with a focus on ‘connected learning’, an educational approach designed for learning in an ever-changing world, which is relevant to all populations, to real life contexts (including environmental and social injustices), and the realities of the digital age. She brings a strong background in survey development and implementation, educational tool development, and stakeholder engagement. Dr. Field engages with ministries of education, school boards, teachers, and community members in her work. She teaches environmental education and climate change education at the bachelor’s and graduate levels, respectively, and has engaged over 800 teachers in professional development workshops. Dr. Field is also the Associate Editor of the Canadian Journal of Environmental Education, Community Advisor for Climate Education Reform British Columbia, and Co-founder and active contributor of the professional online learning community, Climate Change Education in Canada.
